The alfalfa invoice shows up three weeks after the hay went into the bunk, and the price is higher than what you entered. By then, every day of feeding for that period has already been charged to your lots at the old rate. Fixing it by hand means finding each feeding record and adjusting each one. **Update Backdate Feeds** does that correction for you. You set the new price or dry matter on the component once, then apply it to the lots and dates you choose. FLS shows you the dollar difference first, and only changes the records after you confirm. ## Where to find it ![](https://feedlotsolutions.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Nov-01-2026-07-10-34-7846-PM.png?width=880&height=591&name=image-png-Nov-01-2026-07-10-34-7846-PM.png) Open **Feed** → **Components** and select the component you want to correct. Click **Update Feeds** on the toolbar. The **Update Backdate Feeds** screen opens with that component's name, current **Unit Price** and **Dry Matter** already filled in. These values are read-only on this screen. FLS applies whatever is saved on the component right now. If the price itself is wrong, use **Edit** on the component list to change it first, then come back here. ## How to update past feeds ![](https://feedlotsolutions.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Nov-01-2026-07-17-01-2129-PM.png?width=593&height=578&name=image-png-Nov-01-2026-07-17-01-2129-PM.png) 1. In **Lots**, tick the lots that were fed this component. **Check All** selects every active lot. 2. Pick a **Start Date** and an **End Date** for the period that should carry the new values. 3. Tick **Update Unit Price?**, **Update Dry Matter?**, or both. 4. Click **Preview**. 5. Review the preview panel, then click **Confirm Update**. When it finishes, you see **Updated feeds successfully** and return to the component list. ## What the preview tells you ![](https://feedlotsolutions.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Nov-01-2026-07-17-47-3774-PM.png?width=934&height=363&name=image-png-Nov-01-2026-07-17-47-3774-PM.png) The preview repeats your selection, so you can catch a wrong lot or date before anything changes. It lists the **Lots**, the **Date** range, the **Component**, the new **Unit Price** and the new **Dry Matter**. Anything you did not tick shows as `Not Updating`. When you update the price, three more lines appear: - **Current Price**: what those feedings are charged today. - **New Price**: what they will be charged with the component's current price. - **Difference**: the change, marked `(Increased)` or `(Decreased)`. ## How FLS calculates the difference FLS takes the amount of the component fed in that date range and reprices it. The new price uses the component's current cost, markup and margin, plus the ration's handling fee. Say a lot of 120 head ate 18 tons of Alfalfa in October at $136.50 per ton. The new invoice says $150.00 per ton. The difference is 18 × $13.50, or $243.00 increased. FLS spreads that across the lot's cattle, so each head's feed charge rises by about $2.03. Updating dry matter replaces the dry matter percentage on those same feeding records. Your dry matter intake figures for that period then reflect the corrected value. ## Important safeguards - If any selected lot has an invoice covering part of the date range, a price update is refused with **Date range already invoiced**. Already-billed feed is never repriced. - You must choose lots, both dates and at least one of the two checkboxes. The **End Date** cannot be before the **Start Date**. - If no feedings of the component fall in the range, FLS reports **No feeds found** and changes nothing. - If the price is unchanged and you are not updating dry matter, FLS says **No price change, no update needed**. - Changing any lot, date or checkbox hides the preview. You must click **Preview** again before you can confirm. - Only users with edit rights and access to financials see the **Update Feeds** button. ## Available in FLS Cloud **Update Backdate Feeds** is part of the **Components** screen in FLS Cloud, on desktop and in your phone's browser, at no extra cost.
