Never Run Dry: Automate Inventory Reorder Notifications

The Nightmare of the Empty Bin

We have all been there. It is 6:00 AM on a Tuesday. The feed truck is running, the cattle are waiting, and your operator radios in with bad news: "We are out of mineral."

Suddenly, your routine morning turns into a scramble. You are making emergency calls to suppliers, paying expedited shipping fees, or worse—substituting rations on the fly, which can impact animal performance.

In the feedlot business, running out of a critical component isn't just an annoyance; it is a breakdown in efficiency that costs you real money.

That is why we built the Inventory Reorder Notification system.

New in FLS Cloud, this feature acts as your silent inventory manager, monitoring your stock levels 24/7 so you never have to guess when it is time to order again.

What is the Inventory Reorder Notification?

This feature is an automated alert system built directly into FLS Cloud. It constantly tracks your usage of feed components and medical items against the inventory levels you have recorded.

Instead of you having to manually check bin levels or spreadsheet columns, FLS Cloud does the math for you. Every morning at 5:00 AM, the system runs a check. If any item has dipped below your safety stock level, you get an email immediately.

No more surprises. No more empty bins.

How to Set It Up (It Takes 2 Minutes)

We designed this to be "set it and forget it." Here is how to get your automated watchdog running:

1. Turn on the Alerts

First, tell FLS Cloud who to contact when supplies run low.

  • Navigate to MyFLS > Settings > Feedlot Info.

  • Check the box for "Subscribe to reorder notification."

  • Confirm the email address is correct (this is where your alerts will go).

2. Set Your Safety Limits (Thresholds)

Now, tell the system when you want to be warned. This works for both Feed and Medical inventory.

For Feed Components:

  • Go to Feed > Components.

  • Click Edit on any ingredient (e.g., Corn, Supplement, Mineral).

  • Enter a number in the "Reorder Threshold" field.

    • Pro Tip: Set this number high enough to cover your usage during the lead time it takes for a new delivery to arrive.

For Medical Items:

  • Go to Medical > Items.

  • Click Edit on any drug or supply.

  • Enter your "Reorder Threshold" value (e.g., 5 bottles).

Note: If you leave the threshold blank, the system assumes you don't want to track that item. It acts as a "Never Reorder" setting.

What You Will See

Once set up, you can go back to focusing on your cattle. The next time an inventory item drops too low, you will wake up to an email like this:

It gives you a clear list of exactly what is low, so you can forward it to your supplier or place the order immediately.

Why This Matters for Your Feedlot

1. Protect Animal Performance: Consistent nutrition is key to weight gain. Avoiding stock-outs means your cattle get the exact ration they were prescribed, every single day. 2. Reduce Stress: Eliminate the mental load of remembering to check inventory levels. Let the software do the remembering for you. 3. Optimize Cash Flow: By setting accurate thresholds, you can practice "Just-in-Time" inventory, ordering only when you need to rather than stockpiling expensive supplies "just in case."
