New Feature: Bidirectional Lot/Pen Filtering on Weight Update screen
We've updated the Weight Update screen to give you more flexibility when selecting animals. Previously, you had to select a Lot first, then pick a Pen. Now you can start from either direction — Lot first or Pen first — depending on what makes sense for your workflow.
What's New
Both the Lot and Pen dropdowns are now available right when the page loads. You no longer need to pick a Lot before the Pen dropdown becomes active.
How It Works

Starting with a Lot
- Open the Add Weight Update page.
- Click the Lot dropdown and select a lot.
- The Lot label changes to "Lot (Selected First)" so you know it's your primary filter.
- The Pen dropdown automatically refreshes to show only pens that have animals in your selected lot.
- Optionally, pick a Pen from the filtered list to narrow down further.
Starting with a Pen
- Open the Add Weight Update page.
- Click the Pen dropdown and select a pen.
- The Pen label changes to "Pen (Selected First)" so you know it's your primary filter.
- The Lot dropdown automatically refreshes to show only lots that have animals in your selected pen.
- Optionally, pick a Lot from the filtered list to narrow down further.
Switching Your Selection
- You can freely change the value of your primary dropdown (the one you selected first). Each time you pick a new value, the other dropdown refreshes to match.
- The secondary dropdown (the one you picked second) can also be changed, but it won't affect the primary dropdown's list — this keeps your starting filter stable.
Resetting Both Dropdowns
- Click the X button on your primary dropdown to clear it.
- Both dropdowns will reset to show all available lots and pens with no selection, and the "(Selected First)" label is removed.
- You're now free to start over from either direction.
Quick Reference
| Action | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Select Lot first | Lot becomes primary; Pen list filters by that lot |
| Select Pen first | Pen becomes primary; Lot list filters by that pen |
| Change primary dropdown value | Other dropdown refreshes with new filtered list |
| Change secondary dropdown value | Primary dropdown stays unchanged |
| Clear primary dropdown (X) | Both dropdowns reset to no selection, all items shown |
Tips
- Look for the label — "(Selected First)" tells you which dropdown is driving the filtering.
- Start with whichever you know — if you know the pen number but not the lot, start with Pen. If you know the lot, start there.
- To start over, just clear whichever dropdown shows "(Selected First)" and both will reset.
